GUARDIAN HOMES
What is a Guardian Home?
A guardian home is a permanent, loving family that raises and lives with one of our top-quality breeding dogs. The dog becomes a fully integrated member of the guardian family’s home, while we retain breeding rights for a certain number of litters (for females) or a set time period (for males).
Guardian homes allow our breeding dogs to live their best lives — in a home, on a couch, with a family — rather than in a kennel environment. Once the dog’s breeding career is complete, we cover the cost to spay or neuter, and full ownership transfers to the guardian family. We offer a unique guardian program where qualified families will receive a FREE puppy/dog while we retain the breeding rights.
What to expect as a guardian home
How does it work for a female?
Once our female dog has passed all required health testing (at breeders expense) she will enter our breeding program-typically around 18-24 months of age.
Your dog will have a heat cycle (blood around the house but they do have doggie diapers) once every 6 to 8 months. Heat cycles can be unexpected, and your dog may miss out on family vacations/holidays if it is during the time they need to be here with us. During her heat cycle she willneed to be transported to
Michigan Golddendoodles to be bred during her heat cycle (5-7 days at a time). Afterwords she will be transported back to her Guardian Home to be cared for during her pregnancy. About one week before her due date, she will return to Michigan Goldendoodles to whelp and wean the puppies. The breeding female will be away from Guardian Home for (7-9 weeks for each litter)
We offer a monetary thank-you bonus after each successful litter our females have. Michigan Goldendoodles will provide your females food and routine veterinarian costs until she retires.
When we retire her from our program Michigan Goldendoodles pays to spay the dog and ownership passes to the Guardian Family.
How does it work for a male?
Once the male dog has passed all required health testing (at breeders expense) the male will enter our breeding program-typically around 12-14 months of age.
When a female is in heat, the male dog will come to Michigan Goldendoodles to breed female (average 5-7 days time). He will return to Guardian Home after each breeding.
We offer a monetary thank-you bonus for each successful breeding.
When we retire males from our program Michigan Goldendoodles pays to neuter the dog and ownership passes to the Guardian Family.
